INFO:

A large woodwind instrument with a curved mouthpiece. Known for its low, rich tone and warm vibrato.

Background

 First creation documented around the middle 1700s, modeled after a previous double-reed instrument, the DULCIAN. Additional modification of keys and pads created the instrument we know today. Previously known as a fagotto. It eventually overshadowed the DULCIAN in popularity.
A standard fixture of all kinds of ensembles such as orchestras and concert bands. It is sometimes featured as a solo instrument.
They became close with Bass Clarinet in the 18th century. They are one of the younger woodwinds. Actual age unknown.
