INFO:

A large, cylindrical woodwind instrument with a curved neck and bell. It is known for its warm tone and deep register.

Background

 First creation documented around the 1700s after modification of a previous single-reed instrument, the CHALUMEAU, although further roots go back to Ancient Egypt and Greece. Additional modification of keys and pads created the instrument we know today.
A standard fixture of all kinds of ensembles and musical styles, such as orchestras, marching bands, concert bands, and jazz ensembles.
They became close with the saxophones and Bassoon in the middle 18th century. They are one of the younger woodwinds. Actual age unknown.
