FORM AP-105D: History known of individual.
A small, cylindrical woodwind instrument with a flared bell and a single reed mouthpiece. Known for its warm tone and large range.
First creation documented around the 1700s after modification of a previous single-reed instrument, the CHALUMEAU, although further roots go back to Ancient Egypt and Greece. Additional modification of keys and pads created the instrument we know today.
A standard fixture of all kinds of ensembles and musical styles, such as orchestras, marching bands, concert bands, and jazz ensembles.
They became close with Flute and Oboe in the 18th century. They are one of the younger woodwinds. Actual age unknown.
